A 24V strip halves the current for the same wattage, which means the same copper losses produce half the voltage drop. It also allows longer continuous runs before looping power back in.

The key discipline is matching the controller and power supply to the strip voltage. A 24V supply on a 12V strip will overdrive and overheat it.
