An IP65 module is protected against dust and low-pressure water and covers most standard outdoor channel letters and light boxes. IP67 and IP68 ratings add protection against temporary or continuous immersion in water, which is the safer choice for signs in climates with heavy rain, snow, or constant high humidity, or for low-mounted signs that can be splashed.

Whether your showroom is in a dry inland region or a coastal city with salt air, it is usually worth paying a little more for a higher IP rating. Water ingress is the single most common cause of premature module failure, and replacing a failed module at the top of a facade sign costs far more than the module itself.

Voltage, power supply, and connection design

Modules need a compatible power supply to run safely and steadily. Low-voltage modules, typically operating at 12V or 24V DC, are the standard for signage. They use a separate constant-voltage driver, and that driver must be sized to handle the total wattage of every module in the sign, plus a safety margin. For designers and installers, an important detail is the module's cut and connection points and whether it can run multiple units off a single driver without voltage drop along the line.

For taller channel letters, some showrooms prefer modules that can be powered at higher voltage to simplify wiring and reduce the number of drivers hidden inside the sign. Whatever the voltage, the goal is a clean, stable power layout that has no visible cables and no risk of overloading the driver.

Lifespan, consistent color, and long-term running cost

A sign is an investment in the brand, not a one-season purchase. Quality LED modules carry rated lifespans in the tens of thousands of hours, which means years of service before replacement becomes an issue. Consistent color matters across that whole life: modules from different batches that do not match in color temperature will show visible patchiness on a large light box face. Buying from a manufacturer that controls color binning and sells matching batches is the practical way to avoid this awkward problem.

Running cost is another quiet advantage. LEDs draw far less power than fluorescent tubes, and a sign that runs every night for a decade can save a real amount each year on electricity while demanding almost no maintenance. Over the full life of the sign, a more efficient, higher-quality module usually ends up costing less per year than a cheaper unit that dies quickly or forces frequent service calls.

Certifications and choosing a reliable manufacturer

Look for a LED module manufacturer that documents its products with real standards — certifications such as CE, RoHS, and UL give independent assurance that the modules are safe and compliant, and ISO certification points to consistent factory quality control.
