For permanent outdoor signage, IP65 is usually the minimum. If the strip will sit in standing water or be pressure-washed regularly, move up to IP67 or IP68.
Key Specifications to Check

- LED chip and density: 2835 and 5050 chips are common for signage. Higher density gives more even lighting but draws more power.
- Voltage: 12V and 24V DC strips are widely used for sign cabinets. High-voltage AC strips are available for long runs with simpler wiring.
- Color and CCT: Choose white, warm white, RGB, or tunable CCT depending on the design. Make sure the color temperature is consistent across the batch.
- Cutting and joining: Check the cut marks and confirm how connectors and splices are sealed to keep the IP rating valid.
- Control: Dimming, RGB controllers, and smart controls should be rated for the same environment as the strip.
- Certifications: Look for CE, RoHS, UL, and REACH marks to satisfy local regulations and project specifications.
If you are building channel letters or cabinet signs, a dedicated led module may deliver better light distribution than a strip. For decorative outlines, led neon flex offers a smooth, uniform glow with flexible installation.
