When you order LED rigid bars from a factory in China, the number on the quotation sheet is only half the story. The other half is the Incoterm — the international commercial term that decides who pays for freight, insurance and customs clearance, and who carries the risk at each stage of the journey. For buyers sourcing LED rigid bars from HansonLed, understanding these terms is the difference between a smooth shipment and a surprise bill at the destination port.
What Is an LED Rigid Bar?
An LED rigid bar — also called a hard light bar or rigid light bar — is a linear LED light source in which the LEDs are mounted on a solid PCB and then encased in a rigid aluminum or plastic housing with epoxy resin or silicone encapsulation. Unlike flexible LED strips that bend around curves, rigid bars keep a fixed, straight form, which makes them ideal for lightbox side-lighting and back-lighting, sign cabinets and channel letters.
HansonLed's rigid bar range covers side-light bars for edge-lit lightboxes, back-light bars for direct illumination, slim bars for ultra-thin displays, and waterproof models for outdoor signage.
What Are Incoterms?
Incoterms (International Commercial Terms) are a set of rules published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The Incoterms 2020 rules are currently in force. They define the responsibilities of the buyer and the seller for delivery, risk transfer, insurance and cost allocation.
One point is worth repeating: Incoterms govern delivery and risk, not the ownership of the goods or your payment terms. Keep the two separate when you negotiate with a supplier.
The Incoterms HansonLed Offers for LED Rigid Bar Shipments
EXW (Ex Works)
Under EXW, HansonLed makes the goods available at our factory in Shenzhen. From that point on, you arrange everything: loading, export customs clearance, international freight, insurance, import clearance and final delivery. EXW usually gives the lowest unit price, but it places the most responsibility on you. It suits experienced importers who already have a freight forwarder in China.
FOB (Free on Board)
Under FOB, HansonLed delivers the goods on board the vessel at the named port of shipment — typically Shenzhen, Guangzhou or Shanghai. Risk transfers to you once the goods are on the vessel, and we handle export clearance and loading. You pay the ocean freight, marine insurance and all destination charges. FOB is the most common Incoterm for LED exports from China and a sensible starting point for most buyers.
CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight)
Under CIF, HansonLed pays the cost and freight to bring the goods to the named port of destination and arranges minimum marine insurance on your behalf. Risk still transfers to you when the goods are loaded on board at the port of shipment. You remain responsible for import duty, customs clearance, port handling and delivery to your warehouse.
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)
Under DDP, HansonLed takes on the most responsibility: we deliver the goods to your named place, handle import clearance and pay the import duties and taxes. This is the most convenient option for you, but it requires us to have a reliable customs clearance partner in your country and to verify the exact duty rate before quoting. If you want a door-to-door price with no surprises, DDP is the way to go.
Which Incoterm Should You Choose?
- First order or new relationship: choose FOB. You control the origin logistics and can see exactly what you are paying for.
- Experienced importer with a forwarder in China: EXW can save money on the unit price.
- You prefer the seller to handle freight and insurance: choose CIF.
- You want a door-to-door, all-inclusive price: choose DDP, but confirm the import duty rate first.
What to Confirm Before You Request a Quotation
To get an accurate Incoterm quotation, share these details with the HansonLed team:
- Length: standard rigid bars range from about 300 mm to over 1,200 mm. Longer bars mean fewer connections and faster installation.
- Beam angle and lens: a wide 120° lens suits shallow lightboxes under 100 mm deep, while a 30° or 60° lens focuses light into deeper cabinets.
- Voltage: 12V or 24V DC. 24V bars support longer runs with less voltage drop.
- Waterproof rating: IP65 for most outdoor lightboxes; IP67 for signs exposed to heavy rain.
- Color temperature and CRI: cool white (6000–6500K) for corporate and retail, warm white (2700–3000K) for hospitality. Choose CRI 80+ as a minimum and CRI 90+ when color accuracy matters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a CIF price include delivery to my warehouse?
No. CIF ends at the destination port. You pay import duty, clearance, port handling and delivery to your warehouse. Always check what is and is not included in the quotation.
Why does the same LED rigid bar cost different amounts under different Incoterms?
Because each Incoterm bundles a different set of costs — freight, insurance, clearance and duties. Comparing FOB, CIF and DDP prices side by side lets you see the true landed cost of your order.
Can HansonLed quote DDP for my country?
Yes, for destinations where we have a reliable customs clearance partner. We verify the current import duty rate before quoting so there are no surprises at the border.
